NASA’s Dark Universe-Seeking Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Launches
The mission launched at 7:26 a.m. EDT Sunday aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The ground control team at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, began receiving telemetry data from Roman seven minutes after launch.
The Falcon Heavy rocket performed as expected, separating from the observatory 31 minutes into the flight.

Study from India’s first wolf sanctuary reveals when livestock are most at risk
A study from Jharkhand’s Mahuadanr Wolf Sanctuary found that wolf attacks on livestock occurred most likely at night and early morning, during winter and early summer, and near forest edges.
A new study has now identified when, where and why wolves are most likely to attack livestock, providing insights that could help reduce conflict while also supporting conservation.
To further ensure the accuracy of the data, only respondents who could correctly identify an Indian grey wolf from photographs of similar-looking carnivores were included in the survey.

Modular Functors with Singularities from Vertex Operator Algebras Beyond Rigidity and Finiteness
This is inspired by the idea of implementing directly from the start the principle of holomorphic factorization.
The construction can be described explicitly on generating Dehn twists.
In the special case in which the module category of $V$ is a not necessarily semisimple modular category $\mathcal{A}$, the spaces $Ω_V(Σ)$ are equivalent to the string-net spaces for $\mathcal{A}$ and hence to the modular functor for the Drinfeld center $Z(\mathcal{A})\simeq \bar{\mathcal{A}}\boxtimes\mathcal{A}$.

Bounds for inertialess dynamo
In contrast to kinematic dynamo bounds, the evolution of the magnetic field is coupled via an inertialess force balance.
The buoyancy-driven part of the flow $\mathbf{u}^{\mathrm{A}}$ in the event of dynamo action must in fact satisfy, for $3\leq p \leq \infty$ $$ Rm\, A_p\| \mathbf{u}^{\mathrm{A}}\|_{L^p} \geq 1 $$ where $A_p$ is an explicit constant, and $Rm$ is the magnetic Reynolds number.

The largest living sea turtle
Leatherbacks are found in every ocean except the Arctic and Antarctic and spend most of their lives in open waters.
Particularly in Nicobar, the ₹81,000 crore (₹810 billion) trans-shipment project includes building an international container port on the leatherback turtle nesting site, as well as an airport, gas and solar power plant, and township which will lead to the felling of a million trees.

Quantum Fourier transform for the symmetric group
Abstract: Quantum Fourier transforms (QFT) for general groups were recognized to be fundamental already early in the field.
A canonical example of non-abelian QFT for the symmetric group was outlined by Beals (1997).
Later, a more detailed analysis of this algorithm was carried out by Kawano and Sekigawa (2016).

Enterprise-managed settings now support autoUpdate for plugin marketplaces
You can now opt individual plugin marketplaces into automatic updates by setting autoUpdate: true on an extraKnownMarketplaces entry in enterprise managed settings.
Supported clients automatically check the marketplace and update installed plugins sourced from it, reducing manual maintenance for organization customizations.
The marketplace must still be permitted by the effective strictKnownMarketplaces allowlist.

Actions retention will cover checks, workflow runs, and statuses
Starting October 1, 2026, checks, workflow runs, and statuses will be governed by the same Actions retention setting that already controls how long artifacts and logs are kept, with a default of 90 days.
Until now, checks, workflow runs, and statuses were retained for 400+ days regardless of your retention configuration.
This change reduces the amount of stale data stored across GitHub Actions, helping keep checks, workflow runs, and statuses fast and reliable for everyone.

Panorama Showcasing the 34-Meter Antennas of the DSN’s Goldstone Complex - NASA Science
Five antennas soak in the summer sun at the Deep Space Network’s Goldstone complex near Barstow, California, in August 2026.
The recently completed Deep Space Station 23, a 34-meter (114-foot) beam-waveguide antenna, can be seen to the right of the frame in the foreground.
The other three 34-meter antennas are, from left, DSS-26, DSS-25, and DSS-24.

Quantum Fourier transform toolbox
Abstract: Quantum Fourier transforms (QFTs) are essential primitives in quantum algorithms.
While abelian groups admit efficient QFT circuits, with circuit size polynomial in the logarithm of the group order, efficient constructions are known for relatively few non-abelian families.
This removes the restriction $|F|=\operatorname{poly}(n)$ required by previous generic constructions and can yield exponential improvements when $F$ itself has an efficient QFT.

When farm ponds fail to hold water
On July 30, the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences said in a press release that El Niño had intensified from weak conditions in June to moderate levels in July and could strengthen further to the very strong category during October-December.
On August 13, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said in an advisory that there is a more than 90% chance that El Niño will become very strong in the coming months.
As a result, governments in the recent past have sought to expand this traditional approach.

QGPINNs: A Physics-Informed Neural Network Framework for Nonlocal Differential Equations on Quantum Graphs
The framework is designed as a general computational implementation in which the solution on each edge of the graph is approximated by a neural network, while a unified graph-based loss function enforces the governing equations together with initial, boundary, and vertex transmission conditions.
The framework is developed for two representative classes of nonlinear models: multi-order fractional elliptic problems and time-fractional evolution equations on quantum graphs.

Audit exposes fundamental flaws in Green India Mission’s execution
A CAG audit found India’s Green India Mission achieved only around 5% of its afforestation target and missed more than 97% of its ecosystem-restoration goal, citing poor planning and weak monitoring.
Convergence funding largely failed to materialise, leaving billions in direct central contributions over a decade.
States misreported plantation data and neglected ecologically vulnerable landscapes like grasslands and scrublands, while almost no carbon sequestration assessments were conducted nationwide.

A study on African Bermuda-grass highlights gaps in bioinvasion policy
Saha, however, spotted something distinct and this eventually became one of the most important collections of their field trip in 2024, part of a decades-long survey which began in 1995 when Saha’s mentor, Indian Forest Service Officer Manoj Chandran (now retired), collected an unknown Cynodon species from Tamil Nadu during his botanical explorations.
“At that time, the specimen could not be fully appreciated because of its close resemblance to other Cynodon species,” explains Saha.
