Countries Seek to Curb Social Media Addiction for Kids.
A recent study published in Nature: Human Behaviour found that adolescents who begin using social media at an early age tend to have significantly lower academic performance.
The law is stimulating the development of purpose-built online spaces for children younger than 16 that can support their developmental needs, offering alternatives to mainstream social media.
The longer-term impact could be more significant if “no social media account before age 16” becomes an accepted norm, making it easier for parents and schools to support delayed social media use.

US prosecutors accuse Huawei of ‘far-reaching criminal scheme’ spanning decades
The U.S. government has long warned, in sweeping terms, that the Chinese tech giant Huawei is effectively an arm of the Chinese state that acts with impunity on the global stage, including allegedly violating U.S. sanctions.
Over the last two weeks, U.S. prosecutors have begun to make that case, labeling Huawei a “criminal enterprise,” in what could be a lengthy trial in a New York federal court.
Huawei enacted “a far-reaching criminal scheme extending over twenty years,” according to Department of Justice prosecutor Taylor Stout.

What could cause a galaxy to be so out of sync?
If NGC 4698 funneled in gas from an outside source, the newly collected gas could have formed a disc of gas and stars in the galaxy’s centre, at an angle relative to the rest of the disc.

Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera. Its Data Shows How the System Really Works
In Alpharetta, Georgia, for example, WIRED found that records from the city’s Flock cameras were accessible to more than 2,000 agencies, including police departments, colleges, airports, and, inexplicably, the Office of Inspector General for the federal General Services Administration.

Why ProPublica Is Leaning Into Sports Investigations
Even prepped, Garcia-Roberts was surprised by what he found: For generations, poor parents in the Dominican Republic have shunted their children into an unforgiving juggernaut of baseball academies praying for a chance at a life-altering signing bonus from an MLB team.
Garcia-Roberts also detailed the rapacious industry that had sprung up around these young players and their parents: Trainers and moneylenders, he found, were siphoning away those signing bonuses with predatory, high-interest loans and other, often questionable, claims before they even arrived.
Significantly, Garcia-Roberts found, MLB itself has long known about the often brutal world surrounding its youngest prospects.

Identification of broadly tumour-reactive γδ TCRs from multiple myeloma
Without a high-throughput method of distinguishing tumour-reactive γδ T cells—that is, those with tumour-reactive TCRs (henceforth, TR γδ T cells)—from bystander γδ T cells in the same tumour microenvironment (TME), these uncertainties will remain.
This result suggests that there is an unknown contribution by the adaptive immune system to outcomes.
The application of PreGame to the validation 1 and 2 MM cohorts, and subsequent reactivity screening, substantially increased the number of TR and NTR γδ T cells that could be leveraged for differential expression analyses.

Who gets credit in the AI era? OpenAI maths bombshell sparks debate
The widespread use of AI models across most fields of research, and the difficulty of tracing the origin of the information used to train models, could put the very notion of scholarly credit into jeopardy, researchers warn.
Assuming that the OpenAI solution is independently confirmed, it remains to be seen how the maths community will choose to apportion credit — and who deserves the US$1-million award offered by the Clay Mathematics Institute for completing one of seven Millennium Prize Problems that it selected at the turn of the century.
